Updated February 2019
Building a basic maternity wardrobe from a few tops, comfy pants, and dresses of different lengths should help you breeze through the 9 months (and a few afterwards!) of dressing your baby bump.
Pro tip: choose your clothes in a similar color palette that easily mix and match to get as many looks out of your maternity clothes as possible. We call this a “capsule.”
H&M MAMA Shirt ~ $20
H&M serves up some great maternity values (after all, you won’t wear it forever…). I love the grid-like-plaid on this top. The fabric looks flowy and nonconforming. Pair with your favorite skinny denim and booties.
Warning: these are not for everyone…. but these leggings have a huge following – both maternity and not. The faux leather fabric looks elevated in the leggings department (way to fool ’em!). Pair with a chunky sweater or tunic length tank and cardi for a put together but casual look.
I love this comfy sweatshirt! I could see this being dressed up or down and being a major wardrobe staple during pregnancy.
ASOS Lace Stitch Sweater ~ $48
I love a pretty cream sweater — it goes with so many bottoms. For a fun twist, pair with a bright lipstick.
The pretty lace detailing on this top draws the eye away from your big ol’ bump and again, the clean ivory color will go with almost any bottom you have in your closet.
Ingrid & Isabel Joggers ~ $78
Relaxed jogger pants are both comfortable and cool – two things every prego needs on a daily basis!
Gap Maternity Balloon Sleeve Sweater Dress ~ $24 on sale
As I’ve mentioned in other recent fashion picks, the balloon sleeve is very on-trend this year. The french terry is a super comfortable fabric for pregnancy. For work or home, this is a versatile staple.
Maxi dresses make amazing casual maternity clothes when you’re pregnant: they’re comfy, pretty, and versatile. The tank style of this dress is perfect to layer with cardigans.
Another winner from ASOS… the ribbed fabrics on this dress add a nice texture to an otherwise basic style. This dress has a great button-down option for post-pregnancy nursing, and the buttons on the leg slit are a fun feature as well.
I don’t know about you but I just loved to be in dresses during my pregnancy. A long sleeved maxi dress is a great style to layer up during the winter!
Comfy undies are a must when you’re pregnant! This is a top-rated pick.
I love a suede and leather combo. This clutch also has a strap to convert to a crossbody bag as well.
Booties are such a popular shoe for fall but might seem uncomfortable while pregnant. I am a fan of the sneaker/boot trend because it’s a little more of a polished look with an easygoing sneaker tread. These are great paired with leggings!
Steve Madden Trace Mule ~ $55
Yep, I love me some mules! You’ll get a lot of use out of these shoes during your pregnancy and beyond.
I hope you found some pieces to get comfy — enjoy!
