Maxi-Cosi, a popular car seat brand in Europe, is well-liked in the states as well — especially in urban areas. Boiling it down, people generally buy Maxi Cosi brand because they want one that’s not crazy expensive, but fashion-forward (I hate that phrase – gag). This brand also tends to work better with the Euro-brand strollers, such as Cybex.

Before Nuna and UPPABaby debuted their infant seats (several years ago), the Maxi Cosi Mico (and variations of it) were very popular with parents looking for compatibility with luxury, European strollers. Nowadays…. it’s not as popular (in the US, at least).

How is the Mico Luxe different than the Maxi-Cosi Mico 30?

The Mico 30 ($199), but it’s being phased out in favor of the newer Maxi Cosi Mico Luxe ($199) and Luxe Plus ($299). It’s a good thing, because the Mico 30 was not our favorite infant car seat (cheap, flimsy and a poor quality canopy). At that price-point, you were much better off with the Chicco Keyfit (same price).

Anywho – that’s now a moot point for this Maxi Cosi Mico Luxe Review.

Let’s have a closer look.

How much does the Maxi Cosi Mico Luxe weigh?

This seat weighs in just around 9 lbs (without the base), so it’s a little bit lighter than its predecessor, the Mico 30 (by half a pound). Anything less than 10lbs is considered fairly lightweight in the infant car seat department… but not nearly as light as the freakishly lightweight Nuna Pipa Lite Rx, for example.

The Mico Luxe actually got actually smaller (28.9″ L x 17.7″ W x 25.4″ H inches) than the Mico 30 (31 x 18 x 16 inches), as the large size (length, specifically) was the big complaint of the old Mico 30 and Mico Max. This might be a good thing if you are space-constrained in the back seat.

Mico Luxe Infant Car Seat: Installation & Compatibility

The Mico Luxe has that one-click LATCH system that’s <chef’s kiss> easy. And let’s not forget about the oh-so-handy taxi-mode, which is the installation without a base. For city moms and dads who use Ubers or cabs, this feature is gold.

However, if you’re a stroller aficionado, the Mico 30 was the belle of the ball. It was more friendly with most premium-brand strollers, so do double-check for the Mico Luxe, as compatibility with other brands of strollers (especially domestic ones) is not its strong suit.

Comfort & Safety

Here’s where it gets good: the Mico Luxe feels like a baby La-Z-Boy with its plush padding. One of our readers even ditched the extra neck support, her baby was that snug!

Eco-mamas, rejoice! The Mico Luxe is sporting PureCosi fabrics that are fire-resistant and green. Plus, cleaning is a breeze with machine-washable soft goods.

The Mico Luxe still has the anti-rebound feature in the form of a stability leg (the previous iteration of this seat had an anti-rebound bar built into the base). Read more about anti-rebound features.

Hot summers, meet the Mico Luxe’s ClimaFlow tech. It’s a breath of fresh air (literally) for your baby, with little perforations in the side of the shell to help air move through.

The Bottom Line
The Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe is definitely an upgrade from the Mico 30. Its safety features, easy installation, smaller footprint and eco-fabrics make it a more compelling pick for your baby’s infant car seat. Parents like the canopy, the ergonomic handlebar and the most of all, the plush comfy ride. Have a look at this seat if you’re looking for compatibility with a Maxi Cosi stroller, or another European/upscale stroller, and you don’t want to blow the bank on the infant car seat.
