Baby Jogger recently introduced a doubles version of the City Tour travel stroller, and we are here for it!

The Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double is a solid addition to our list of favorite double travel strollers, with caveats.

Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double features

Let’s get into the down and dirty details about this side-by-side double – we’ll touch on the positives, the not-so-positives and why we think it’s great for traveling with two.

Weight and Size

As double strollers go, this one is extremely lightweight at a mere 23 lbs an incredibly low weight for a double stroller. The width is also something to write home about; at 26 inches wide, the City Tour 2 Double is wonderfully narrow and easily fits through standard doorways.

Another detail that makes the City Tour 2 Double nice for travel is that you can fold it with one hand (which does take some getting used to), and it auto locks once folded. The one-handed fold is super helpful when you’re managing multiple kiddos and all their belongings; it’s little things like this that you will really appreciate! Once it’s folded and locked, it won’t fly open as you lift it into your trunk, pack it in its carry bag, or throw it onto the security conveyor belt.

Note that this stroller folds in half, not in thirds like some of the most compact travel strollers out there (we call them “tri-folds”). Even so, we are loving the folded size of this stroller 🙌🏼 — it’s downright dainty. Most double strollers take up your entire trunk, this one does not!

So compact – fits easily in trunks and small storage spaces!

Unfortunately, the stroller does not “self-stand”, as many have mentioned in their critiques. A self-standing stroller is always nice because it’s easier to manage and prevents you from having to lay it on the dirty ground.

The stroller comes standard with a bag and carry strap for easy schlepping/traveling. And yes, the City Tour 2 Double is Disney-size approved. Yay!

Seats

Let’s take a closer look at the stroller seats. Each seat can hold a child up to 33 lbs. Note that this is definitely not on the higher end of the weight spectrum, so (again) this stroller is best suited for babies and younger/lighter children (more on that in a bit… ). To generalize, it’s best for kids under 4.

I always look this posh and put together when I’m strolling with my kids… to a fancy cafe (LOL!!)

The child seats come equipped with a 5-point safety harness, and recline independently to a near flat position. They also have adjustable calf supports for added comfort. The recline and calf support make this stroller especially comfy for the kiddos.

Unfortunately, Baby Jogger recently discontinued the bassinet that came with this stroller. It’s a huge shame, because the Tour 2 Double used to accept two bassinets. And no, it doesn’t accept car seats either.

This is such a bummer for families with twins and/or newborns in car seats!! That said, due to the almost flat recline and adjustable calf supports, you can lay babies directly in the stroller seats from birth.

Nice, adjustable calf supports

The Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double has UV 50+ canopies with extension panels to shield your kids from the sun, and like other Baby Jogger strollers, has two peek-a-boo windows so you can check on your babies while out and about.

Note that the peek-a-boo windows do use Velcro, which can be annoyingly loud if your babies are sleeping…

Storage and Accessories

Something else to note – though not a dealbreaker – is that this stroller doesn’t come with any bells or whistles (except for the carry bag) — not even a cup holder. For the price, it would be nice if at least some of these accessories were included. That said, you can purchase the following accessories separately: glider board, weather shield, belly bar and footmuff. You may be able to find a 3rd party “parent organizer” that will do the trick, but note the incline of the handlebars make it tricky; look for one that hangs down freely.

The storage basket is a bit challenging because of the bar that goes down the middle (though it does hold up to 15 lb of “stuff”), so you won’t be able to stow a single, large diaper bag. However, it handles several smaller items just fine. Note that this configuration is a fairly standard predicament with side-by-side double strollers, especially compact travel strollers.

Also note that the handlebar does not adjust for height. Again, this is fairly standard for a travel stroller. This handlebar is pretty tall and we haven’t run across any complaints to this end, but it might be worth noting if you or your partner are exceptionally tall (or short).

Wheels

The wheels are well-made, but they just aren’t big and they don’t absorb much. But truly, we can’t really expect them to. This isn’t an all-terrain stroller. However, the Tour 2 Double does offer front-wheel suspension, lockable front-swivel wheels, and a simple-to-engage foot-operated brake.

Again, this stroller is best for travel and/or daily errands/walks on flat terrain around the neighborhood, zoo, mall, airports, etc. Smooth surfaces work best for these smaller wheels.

Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Double: Bottom Line

The City Tour 2 Double stroller is perfect if you’re looking for a lightweight, double travel stroller with a compact fold. As one of the narrowest side-by-sides on the market, it will get you through doorways with ease.

This version of the stroller is watered down compared to the regular City Mini 2 Double and, of course, the City Mini GT2 Double, so you won’t be getting the bells and whistles that you get with those versions. Also note that it is not compatible with bassinets or car seats.

However, if a lightweight, compact double stroller is what you’re looking for and you have smooth terrain and lighter/smaller kids, the City Tour 2 Double stroller could be the perfect solution.
